The people and organisations that make ALE possible

Helping Hands

Being a nomad conference, every year, a new organising team takes the responsibility to host ALE and is supported by a local organisation for the financial and legal aspect of hosting ALE. This year's edition is happening in Belgium, so we have chosen to partner with Timelab. Their values are very close to the values of ALE and this is why we're proud to cooperate with them this year.

Timelab

Timelab is an international arts organisation based in Ghent, Belgium. Rooted in the open-source and hacker movements, it was founded in 2008 and launched Belgium's first fablab. Since then, Timelab has grown into an established, community-driven institution with over 100 makers and an international arts residency programme.

Through a practice of learning by doing, Timelab has developed a governance model for multi-stakeholder organisations that run hybrid and commoning spaces in Flanders. As part of a worldwide network of cultural and transformative places, Timelab has a strong transcultural programme and a long-standing commitment to critical, socially responsible practice.

The Timelab Academy translates these ways of working into playful and tangible instruments for facilitation, participatory community work and collective learning.
